How To Make Beef Tallow
Making tallow is not as intimidating as it seems. First thing to do is source beef fat, you can buy the fat itself or by saving the fatty pieces off steak (though I wouldn’t use this fat for skin care).
Once you have a couple pounds of beef fat, throw it in a pot on the stove on low heat and let it cook down for a couple hours.

How To Store Tallow
On the Counter: Store tallow in a cool, dark place in an airtight container to prevent oxidation and rancidity. It can last for many months this way.

Find the most local honey you can get your hands on. If you can’t get your hands on any, raw store-bought honey will do.

Medium-size Stainless Steel Bowl: To place over your small saucepan for the top half of a double boiler.
Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer with Whisk Attachment: For whipping the butter.
8oz Glass Jar with a Lid: For storing the whipped butter.
Mini Silicone Spatula: For filling the jar.
How To Make Lavender Honey Whipped Tallow Balm
Scale the Ingredients:
Begin by measuring your tallow, coconut oil and honey all in a metal bowl.

Set Up a Double Boiler:
Add about 1 cup of water to a saucepan and place it on medium-high heat. Then, place your bowl of ingredients on top of the saucepan, ensuring it sits comfortably above the simmering water, to act as a double boiler. This will allow the fats to melt without direct heat.
Melt the Fats:
Let the fats melt completely until it is liquid. Stir occasionally to ensure it melts evenly.



Cool the Fats:
Once the fats have melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool on the counter for an hour or until it reaches a semi-hardened state.
Add Essential Oils:
Once the mixture has semi-hardened, add the essential lavender oil.

Whip the Fat:
Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, begin whipping the cooled tallow.


Achieve Desired Consistency:
Continue to whip until the tallow reaches a fluffy, whipped consistency that is light and smooth. This could take a couple minutes.
Store the Whipped Tallow Balm:
Once your balm is ready, scoop it into a clean jar or container for storage.

Notes
It’s better to whip fats that are a little too hard than a little too soft. The act of whipping will heat the mixture slightly, make it easier to incorporate air and get a whipped cream texture.
